For Adults Only

No, this posting does not contain obscene acts or exhibits. But Singapore is going to hold a "sexpo" in November at Singapore Expo, the place that I know always hold family-oriented events like book fairs.

What is "Sexpo"? It is an exhibition that feature furniture designed to enhance lovemaking, erotic toys, sixy lingerie etc. Added "value" is an exotic dance competition and an exhibit on history of condom making.

WOW! How loose this "sing-land" is now! That is the reason when a friend who is the CEO of a listed educational institution at home sent me a SMS, I replied that I was on the way to that sin-ful city and hope to "sing" all my way home. I know, I won't.

Now, Singapore has bar-top dancing since 2003? In 2009, it will have two integrated resorts which will include casinos.

I asked an educator here what he thought of the "sexpo" and casinos and the like. He said he would be more confident to reply my questions 10 years down the road. 10 years? A long wait.

Incredible. If it's free, I might just visit for curiosity when I am next in Singland (Christmas). If it's going to cost say S$10, I'll give it a pass.

Free, sorry. It is like "sin dollars" 8 for visitors below 21 years old and "sin dollars" 14 for adults.

Below 21? Yes, I read that there is a section called "living room" which will be open to everybody. This section will teach those below 21 about safe sex, abstinence and STD.

Considering? Book early.

I read your later post Elite vs Essence first before coming here, because it's top-down reading like in SinCity's leadership. The change and adaptation factors you wrote earlier apply to this present post -- resulting from a trade-off between globalisation-cum-competition AND loosening controoled environment-cum-foreign exchange inflow.

Yan -- this is the realpolitik we're dealing with -- at least the Sin(g)ful city is clear about the roadmap for next decade. Back home, I have to admit, we can't even see through the Haze for the next few years, the leadership is mostly acting ADHOC -- one BN componet starts a fire, other component/s reacts/react to put out the fire. Many citizens watch on the sideline, resigned, retired, or just tired, some even comatosed.

I may sound pessimistic, but I don't mind trading a measure of sincity for Security&Certainty.

Hi, Desi, I spent some time in Singful-land (still I like to add in "g" to make it merry) in late 1980s and early 1990s. I like the country, because it's compact, because it's clean, because of its many good services ...

I really think that we can't compromise on the good values for anything else.

I still like this "singful-land". My heart was warmed when their PM Lee ended his national day rally with this statement -

It's a spirt which will hold us together as one united people, each one doing his part, each one contributing to remaking our nation and building our home. And together we will make this a vibrant global city called home.

Home, it's the word that always, always warms our heart. A place called home with switching values?

No, it's never home.
