Will Fong Po Kuan apologize?

On March 30, Fong Po Kuan (DAP – Batu Gajah) felt affronted when her fellow MP Datuk Badruddin Amirldin made this statement: “How long can the Yang Berhormat’s husband stand her?”

She said that Badruddin’s statement had contravened Standing Order 36(9), which states that no MP should utter any statement with malicious intent towards another MP as reported by many newspapers. Fong demanded an apology.

The Star reported in its “At the Dewan Rakyat” today that the Dewan was told that there is apparently a huge pool of men out there known as 3Ts. It stands for “teringin tapi takut” – men who desire for more than one wife but are not polygamous for fear of not being able to act justly.

The Star further reported of the many remarks of our “people’s representatives” –

Idris Haron (BN – Tangga Batu) said many muslim men were believed to fall under the 3T category. In jest, he conceded that he, too, was a 3T. Women, he said, should also be blamed because some of them preferred to court married men..

Chong Eng (DAP – Bukit Mertajam), while agreeing with his remarks that some women were partly to blame, said married men must keep in mind their marriage vows and responsibility.

Fong Po Kuan said statistics showed that there were more women than men aged between 65 and 75 years old.

“Men should then take wives from this age category,” suggested Fong to hoots of the laughter from the MPs.

Datuk Bung Mokhtar Radin (BN – Kinabatangan) cut in, saying, ”Mana boleh. Siapa mahu?” (That’s not possible. Who wants to do that) May be YB Ipoh Timor (Lim Kit Siang) would want someone from that age.”

I take this as an insult not only to women of this age category, but to all women. Fong Po Kuan definitely owes all women an apology. I hope that she will use the same spirit as when she demanded for an apology to be responsible for her words and offer an apology to women.

One day, if Fong lives long enough, she will reach this age category. Will she then made the same remark? Or does it mean that when she is 65, is is alright for the same statement "How long can the Yang Berhormat's husband stand her?" to be put to her?

She should apologize.

I wonder what our MPs are doing in the Dewan Rakyat!

Hi Yan:

At this stage, it's TOO LATE to wait for Badaruddin Amiruldin's apology (I remember that confrontation between him and Fong, and I'm definitely on her side, because she's RIGHT!)-- he has consistently shown he lacks the mental faculties even expected of a NS trainee -- maybe we should send him there for RETRAINING.

I just wrote about his call to Opposition Leader Lim KS and DAP MO Kapral Singh to "leave the country" if they did not like it when debating some syariah law amendment.(How Not To Lose Our Country! July 13, 2005) This guy has no respect for fellow Malaysians, and thinks he has priority over others on ownership of this land called Malaysia.

Perhaps the constituents of Jerai can do us all a favour by Voting him out, for the august House is turned into a ring of circus animals with the ilk of a Bada running wild around and making funny sounds.

Hi, desiderata,

We are on different topic.

This time is the turn for Fong Po Kuan to apologize by indicating that women between the age of 65 to 75 could be "given" to 3T men. Her reason being that there were more women than men in this category.

Isn't it an insult to women? Should she not apologize to all the women in the nation?

Hi Yan:

Maybe i'm off topic; you asked whether Ms Fong should apologise. Me, I looked at Badaruddin Amiruldin's record in Parliament.
Fong had her confrontation with the MP from Jerai earlier, it was an affront to all women, but no apology was forthcoming from the most honourable one from Jerai.

I see the rationale for the CiliPadi's point this time around -- and what's wrong with the married men looking at the older women as second, third, fourth wife? My little knowledge about Muslim point of view on polygamy is that a primary reason for this allowance is for married men to provide companionship and guardianship for widows, their children; maybe aged spinsters,...? (I stand corrected by my Muslim brethren on this point, any help here?)

It's from Bung Mokhtar Radin (BN-Kinabatangan) Yan and all her sisters should seek an apology from. I quote,, according to The Star report, July 13: "Mana boleh. Siapa mahu?" In matters of the heart, I had quoted Mark Twain a couple of times that "Age is a matter of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter."

Where's the basis of Ms Fong having to apologise, whether you're sweet16, mature40, or vibrant60 and youngeragain70?

dear friends, please kindly visit the Parliament website at www.parlimen.gov.my . Go to Penyata Rasmi dated 11.07.2005. Please read the full text of the speech on polygamy, starting from page 113. And, the continuation in Penyata Rasmi dated 12,07.2005.

I do not mean to offend any women when I refer to "marrying those above 65 years old". I was saying it in the context, that earlier, MP for Sri Ganding has mentioned that they need to provide love (kasih sayang) and... pembelaan to women. Protector of women. Also, the MP for Kinabatangan said , the statistic has shown that the ratio of man to woman is 1:7, as such, many women are in the state of darurat (emergency), justify poligamy.
